Can you play guitar hero smash hits (wii) without the microphone and drums?

Author: I just wanted to know if I can use only the guitar to play the Guitar hero smash hits, because every time i select the "career" option, the game asks me to plug in the microphone (which, unfortunately, i do not have).
also, can i use just the wii controller?

Yeah you can play with just the guitar. My view of the problem might be that the guitar isnt picking up the wiimote therefore making it seem like only the controller is on which will always ask for the microphone because to use the microphone you need just the wiimote. Also if you are using another brand of guitar or something like that the game might not pick it up and just say its the controller.
