In other words, is the new guitar hero controller compatible with rock band? I know for guitar hero your can use the regular 360 controller to play, so wouldnt that be the if i were to use the rock band controller?

yes! I have xbox 360.All work on both games! I have GHWT and RB1 and RB2. GWHT has better drums and guitars! All instruments are playable on GH and on RB. GHWT drums play just like real drums, hi hat and snare setup play and feel like real drums! GH Guitar has cool slider/tap spot for heavy shredding! Buy GHWT special edition, then just buy RB discs for better downloadable music content; at least until GH catches up. This will give you the best of both worlds! It is the new karaoke!

Yes it does work for rock band 1 and 2

Yes it is compatible with both rock band 1 and rock band 2, I know because I only use the guitar hero guitars, including the new one for rock band games because I like them better than the rock band guitar controllers.
