Guitar Hero Metallica well received

According to gamerankings.com, most reviews about Guitar Hero : Metallica are very good.  With an average score of 88.5% for all platforms, this comes as no surprise for many players as Metallica’s songs almost feel like they were made for Guitar Hero.

Only Gamespot gave a more than unusual lower score, but they tend to be strict towar the Guitar Hero serie since Rock Band came out.

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits Is Now Guitar Hero: Smash Hits [Activision]

guitar hero smash hits scre Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits Is Now Guitar Hero: Smash Hits [Activision]When Activision ships its “best of” Guitar Hero compilation this summer, it will be called Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, not Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, as previously announced. Why? You got me.

Perhaps Activision is saving Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits for yet another installment, as it’s due to run out of Guitar Hero sequel and spin-off sub-titles any minute now. Or maybe there was just too much internal strife about who was indeed the greatest. But when you inevitably walk into your local GameStop or Best Buy or Target this June, demanding a full-band’s dose of Guitar Hero rehash… sorry, re-smash, now you know what to ask for. Make a note of it.

Big box art proof after the break.

Guitar Hero: Metallica Ad Has Exactly Four Too Many Pantsless Men [Clips]

Activision’s marketing team must be suffering from a bout of delusion, as the new Guitar Hero: Metallica television spot is lacking in Heidi Klum pantslessness in favor of Bobby Knight pantslessness.

Four NCAA coaches match wits with four Metallica band members—thankfully modest in black denim—complete with Bobby Knight launching a trademark tirade and a Guitar Hero World Tour drum kit at the band. On the receiving end of biting remarks from Metallica’s James Hetfield are Knight, Roy Williams, Rick Pitino and Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski, who are just trying to enjoy some of “the Guitar Hero.”

With that much star power, it’s the Matt Pinfield voice over that, personally, really sells it. Thanks for the heads up, Eddie.

Guitar Hero 3 Guitar Controller Release Date and Price Rumor?

Rumors surfaced from a few small sources that standalone Guitar Hero 3 Guitar Controllers could be released around March 2008. But now, other prominant sites have struck down the rumor as a meer myth and the pages with the controllers listed have vanished so whats really going on?

The rumor claims that the new standalone Guitar Hero 3 Controllers were listed in the Red Octane online store for a short period of time and that the Xbox 360 and PS3 guitar controllers will be $69 USD while the Wii’s will be $59.

This rumor is believable because Red Octane are the offical makers of guitar hero controllers, so if they did accidently post a date it was probably the right one or close.

Also, Red Octane frequently puts up items that are set to be released months in the future. For example they just did this with their upcoming “Guitar Hero 3 Bundles with two Guitar Controllers for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii”  which just started being listed a few days ago on their site and guess what, the release date is set to March 2008.

So it’s very possible they made a mistake when entering items into their database which made the controllers temporarily viewable to the public; but when I e-mailed a Red Octane representative asking about a release date for the stand alone guitar controllers they replied with this:

“From the info given so far, we still do not have a solid release date for the stand alone controllers.” – RedOctane

So, the official word is that there is no solid release date yet for stand alone Guitar Hero 3 controllers, but based on what we’ve learned, some time during March 2008 is probably a good guess as to when they will be released.

Its taken standalone Guitar Hero 3 controllers so long to come out at this point that I’m sure you’re foaming at the mouth by now; and when they finally are released they’ll probably be as hard to find as the game was. With this in mind, you’ll be able to easily find them in stock at our Guitar Hero Shop, so if you plan on getting an extra Guitar when they’re released just bookmark one of the links below.

Aerosmith Exclusively on Guitar Hero

Its no suprise with so many rhythm games coming out now-a-days that companies would start trying to get exclusive deals with bands so they could be the only ones cash in on their popularity.

The first sign of this is coming for Activision upcoming game Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, it was recently found out that Aerosmith is exclusive to the Guitar Hero Series for an undisclosed length of time.

Tim Riley, Activisions Vice president of music affairs has stated “I can say that we do have the band exclusively, and their catalogue should be exclusive to us beyond the one or two tracks they had licensed out to Rock Band before we made our deal.”

So don’t expect to hear or see Aerosmtih songs in any other band or music related games for the forseeable future.

I think its interesting that companies are doing this, in a way you have to. It wouldn’t be that hard for another company to copy them or for Harmonix to include all the Aerosmith songs in a download pack or in an upcoming game of theirs.

Now I’m wondering what other kinds of exclusive deals with bands exist or may pop up soon.

PSA: Guitar Hero: Metallica melting faces, store shelves today

ghmet demo 580 PSA: Guitar Hero: Metallica melting faces, store shelves today

We thought we’d pass along a courteous reminder from Activision informing the gaming community that Guitar Hero: Metallica began rocking store shelves today. If you haven’t found current full-band simulators to be punishing enough, Metallica promises to deliver with an “Expert +” mode, double kick pedals, and guitar solos capable of turning even the sturdiest fingers into tiny puddles of red goo. If you’ve got $59.99 lying around (or $49.99 for the Wii version, $39.99 for the PS2), you can simulate “riding the lightning”* with unparalleled accuracy.

*Warning: Riding lightning can lead to unintended health consequences in the groin region, including serious unsightly burns and impotence. Consult your doctor before deciding to mount any arcs of electricity.

King Diamond joining Metallica on the big stage

by: Dan Keener
NEWS – Well, with Lemmy officially announced last week, Activision has now broken out Mercyful Fate frontman King Diamond as the next icon to join Metallica in their Guitar Hero Metallica game. Along with Kind Diamond himself, the game will feature his cross-bone microphone, Eye Necklace and a re-recorded version of “Evil” done by four of the five original band members. After the last two, I am trying to wrack my brain who else Metallica may have paid homage too over the years that may be included in the game. Any thoughts, post them in the comments.Comment

Lemmy from Motorhead guesting in Guitar Hero: Metallica

by: Dan Keener
NEWS – Activision announced today that Motorhead lead singer and bassist Lemmy will be an in-game character in Guitar Hero: Metallica. Metallica has always had a soft spot for Motorhead, having honored the group with a seven-cover performance of Motorhead’s songs called The Lemmy’s. In addition to the Lemmy appearance, Motorhead’s 2008 re-recording of “Ace of Spades” will also be included on the set list. Guitar Hero: Metallica is scheduled to hit retail on March 29th. Check out a couple of images of Lemmy in-game provided by Newscom.

Guitar Hero Metallica Comes With Slice Of Lemmy [Activision]

lemmy gh Guitar Hero Metallica Comes With Slice Of Lemmy [Activision]Metallica announced today that Guitar Hero Metallica will feature Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister as a playable character, presumably when one plays the band’s hit “Ace of Spades,” one of many guest tracks in the game.

It should be a very profitable year for the English bassist, as he’ll also be appearing in the similarly umlauted Brütal Legend from Double Fine Productions, with “Ace of Spades” also licensed for Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned. Unconfirmed is a guest appearance from Lemmy’s mole, which is rumored to appear in the next Puyo Puyo title from Sega.

Metallica’s web site also points out that the band has convinced “another buddy to join in the fun,” which we’ll take to mean “turned into polygons and motion captured.” Could it be King Diamond? Could it?!
